A Small Salon With A Big Heart

Customers are greeted with a warm drink and a cozy robe at Salt & Light Aveda Salon. Yes, an actual robe. After a consultation, a personalized hair plan is customized to fit each client. Salt & Light offers the same expertise as large salons. The stylists are experienced and receive regular Aveda training. All the products used are top quality, as well as, earth and human friendly.
It quickly becomes clear why clients are willing to travel from around the Bay for their hair services, and it’s not just the easy access and plentiful parking (although that helps). Salt & Light offers its “large urban salon” talents as a small business with a big heart for the community it serves. True to its name, the atmosphere at Salt & Light Aveda Salon exudes warmth and genuine care for its clients.
Salt and Light Salon owners: Laly & Pedro and Darcy & Lou
The Aveda products that are used are in line with the Salon’s values. Did you know that Aveda was recently recognized for its community partnerships at The United Nations’ Nature for Life’ Summit? Another reason to feel great about patronizing an Aveda Salon! Here are some more things you may not know about Salt & Light Aveda Salon:
๐Ÿ˜ท There are five stylists at the Salon, but only two work at a time. This is to provide the safest possible environment during this time.
โœ‚๏ธ Salt & Light is owned by Darcy & Laly and their husbands, however, the previous owners, Ruby and Irma, still see their clients full-time at the Salon.
๐Ÿฅฐ Do you prefer a lively chat or an hour of peace and quiet? Maybe listen to a podcast? With only two clients at a time, it is easy to fit your mood.
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Salt & Light Salon is open 7 days a week right now!
๐ŸŒŽ Aveda products are organic and 100% vegan. Aveda produces and packages their products responsibly.

All You Need is Love… and Plenty of Scrumptious, Freshly Baked Treats!

Years ago, before Eva Sweets Bakery opened at Marsh Manor, pastry chef and owner, Tal, was looking for a gift to deliver to a dear friend. Although there were plenty of options, finding something with a personal touch proved more difficult, so she decided to build her own. She assembled the gift with her friend in mind, loaded with freshly baked treats and other goodies. It was a hit and the idea of “Love Made Edible” Gift Boxes was born. The perfect gift for all special occasions, employee or customer appreciations, or just to send some love!

Boxes can be ordered as shown or customized, or Tal can work with you to create your own altogether, within your budget. Gifts include a personal note and are hand-delivered if within a 10-mile radius. All others are shipped via UPS (one business day in California, 2-3 days outside)

But Eva Sweets Bakery is not just about treating others, don’t forget to stop by the bakery to treat yourself! Fresh coffee is brewing and there is a lovely seating area to relax or meet a friend.

Here are some things you may not know about Eva Sweets Bakery:

๐Ÿฐ The first two things Tal was really proud to master were babka and opera cake. Still some of her specialties.

โค๏ธ She loves all her “babies” but she does have a soft spot for anything chocolate, such as brownies and rugelach.

โฐ Her day starts at 4AM.. every day..

๐Ÿšš A lot of Eva Sweets business is from events and corporate sales, but she always enjoys seeing her customers face-to-face at her shop.

๐Ÿฅฐ Eva Sweets Bakery is a true family business. Tal’s husband and three teenagers are regularly helping out with orders, deliveries, etc

More Than Just a Pretty Pint

Yes, Freewheel Brewing Company is serious about brewing beer. And yes, craft beer enthusiasts from the Bay Area & beyond write glowing reviews about their brews. But Freewheel Brewing is also a true community pub, with clientele as varied as the craft brews they serve.

A welcoming group of neighborhood regulars gather daily for a pint and a chat. For them, this really is a place where everybody knows your name. In addition, friends and families frequent FBC to enjoy chef Benny’s delicious food, live music, and other events.

Easily accessible, with plenty of comfortable seating, and reliable WIFI, business people find Freewheel a perfect spot for work luncheons, remote work, or after-hours drinks.

UK ex-pats often travel distances to get a taste of home. The cask ale pints don’t disappoint and are always served at the perfect temperature.

Here are some things you may not know about Freewheel Brewing Company:

๐Ÿบ FBC has “Thirsty Thursday” beer releases EVERY Thursday! You better come thirsty- for that day FBC offers newly released pints and crowlers at reduced prices.

๐ŸฅซCrowlers are giant, 32 oz. cans that are filled on the spot. Perfect for to-go beer and shipping!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ FBC may be best known for its cask ales, but the menu also includes delicious keg beers and nitro tab beers.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Freewheel Brewing Company was established in 2012. Chef Benny has been there (almost) the whole time!

๐ŸŽตFreewheel has a jam-packed event calendar; make sure you follow them on Facebook to get the latest updates! Stay tuned for their upcoming Oktoberfest festivities!

๐Ÿšš Establishments around the Bay serve Freewheel’s beers, including Johnston’s Saltbox (San Carlos), The Pig and Whistle (SF), The Rake at Admiral Maltings in Alameda (which is incidentally where FBC sources their malt from.)

CorePower Yoga is Ready to Help you Reach Your Goals for Both a Healthy Body & Healthy Mind!

Entering Marsh Manor’s CorePower Yoga Studio, you may mistake it for an upscale spa. The facilities are brand new and sparkly clean. Changing rooms are equipped with everything you need, including showers, vanities and private lockers. The mission of the studio reminds us that their program is far from passive though. Bronweyn, the studio manager, explains that CorePower aims โ€œto show the life changing things that happen when you root an intensely physical workout in the mindfulness of yoga.โ€ She shared some interesting facts about the studio’s attributes and the classes offered below.

๐Ÿ’จ The Marsh Manor Studio has a brand new and sophisticated ventilation system that is constantly removing stale air and drawing in clean outside air into the studio spaces.

๐Ÿ”ฅ All classes have some level of added heat. Studio spaces are heated by radiated heat that heats people, not air, so hot air is not “pushed” through space.

โ†”๏ธ The Marsh Manor studios are more spacious than CorePower studios in surrounding areas. Classes also tend to be smaller, since they are still new to the area, so social distancing is happening naturally right now.
๏ธ Four classes are currently offered at Marsh Manor location: CorePower Yoga 1 (C1) and 2 (C2), Hot Power Fusion (HPF), and Yoga Sculpt (YS). More information about classes here.

๐Ÿงก All staff and teachers adhere to CorePower’s extensive safe studio standards.

๐Ÿ˜ท The Marsh Manor’s location offers classes that are “masks required,” as well as, “masks not required while on mat” – to suit all comfort levels. The latter is only offered to fully vaccinated members. Check their schedule for more details.

CorePower is offering 3 FREE classes for all new CorePower students!
If you are new to the practice of yoga, Bronweyn recommends starting with either “CorePower 1” or “Hot Power Fusion.” Both are taught at a slower pace and offer a great foundation for higher level classes. Check class schedule and register below. Bring a mat, towel and some water! (All retail is 30% off at this time)

“The studio is brand new and so clean! We were in Studio 1 which was huge, and had plenty of space for us to spread out. They’re limiting the class size and I also liked that they had taped out markers for yoga mats. I appreciated that the room was heated before class, but during class the doors were open to let in circulation.” – Sylvia Y.

Los Gallos even has full bar service available with a large variety of mixed drinks and beers to pair with your meals.

There is no better way to spotlight a restaurant than through the eyes of its satisfied customers. Below is a collage of Los Gallos meals that people shared on Instagram.

(Warning- don’t look on an empty stomach!)

Make sure you try their Pozole de Puerco (Pork Pozole) Special this month! This hearty, rich Mexican stew is sure to satisfy. Los Gallos Taqueria is open daily from 9AM-11PM. They do not accept cards, but there is an ATM onsite.

“I love Los Gallos. The people are nice, and always quick to prepare great tasting burritos. Really convenient location coming off 101 on Marsh. A good quantity of outdoor seating which is casual and great on a sunny day.” – T.C (yelp)

“One of my favorite taquerias to get a quick bite at in the area! They do not skimp here and the portions are always huge! The price is definitely cheaper than compared to other places.” – Vivian P. (Yelp)
